Reluctant Spring

I take this piece of me

and leave it here with you.

I plant this part of me

here in this grove.

I once struggled in your shadow;

branches reaching for the sky,

leaves unfurling to the sun.

I grew

surrounded by a forest

all stretching for the light

reaching for the moisture.

Now the winds of Spring are coming

and I am blowing away.

New soils, new forests

new life awaits.

Yet I leave this piece of me

here, in the earth, with you.
